Doepaw turned to Ragingpaw, her face covered in tears. Her crying stopped a bit as she took in Ragingpaw's words. She sighed as she realized she'd have to go after him. She looked up at the tom and shook her head, swallowing the lump in her throat.

"I- I have to d-do this by m-myself.."

She somehow managed to choke out before touching noses with the tom to thank him for helping her. She inhaled deeply before limping off towards the camp entrance, following the distinct scent of dried blood that trailed off into the territory.

"Time to make a deal with the devil.."

The grass on the edge of camp, colored golden brown with the beginnings of leaf fall rustled before parting to reveal the startlingly tall tom that served as Sunclan's leader. He paced through the camp with a taught jaw, never breaking stride as he weaved around his clan mates with an intense gaze that seemed to stare through the cats nearest to him. His muscles rippled as he walked, the only sign that he was the same well toned, battle hardened leader as he had always been. In the light of the rising sun, his pelt caught fire, highlightining the premature grays that grizzled his muzzle and neck fur. He looked hollow, tense, older, and yet somehow, he looked powerful despite the fact that he appeared to resemble a senior warrior. But then, stress could do that to a cat. The stress of war, countless murders, and heart break.. The tom stopped for a moment to step on to the high stump, and took a long deep breath before he faced Sunclan as a whole. That intense purple gaze travled over the cats before him, that gaze commanded quiet attention before he spoke, knowing all eyes would be on him. "Sunclan," he began, his voice a quiet rumbling timbre, "I know I havn't been here since the gathering..I do apologise..but there were things that I needed to sort out before facing you again." Sandstar paused, that intimidating stare focusing on Bastet before traveling to Windelk's scarred form, "Many things have happened since I became deputy of Sunclan. The clan as a whole has changed, and id like to say in some ways it has become stronger." Those purple orbs focused on , Firpaw then to Oakstump, and Veinpool, "And in some ways I feel as if we have lost ourselves. Sunclan no longer thinks of itself as a whole, as it should. That characteristic that made Sunclan strong, and more intelligent than the other clans, that thing that made Sunclan a force to be reckoned with..its dwindled almost to non existance." Sandstar's attention zipped to Ternshore, Twinsouls, and Nightrivers, "I once thought it was part of my destiny as leader to rekindle that oneness. That strength. But I've come to realize that this is not the case." Rageingpaw, Midnightsphinx, Apep, and Dunestride caught his eye next as his voice flowed past his teeth, "My destiny was to guide Sunclan through it's darkest days, to preserve the clan, and help you all persevere through the obsticals of Sunclan's murderer, the longest leaf bare the clans have ever seen, and the beginning waves of this war." Tidepaw, Slatepelt, Poppykit, Heatherpaw, Rabbitpaw. "But that era has come to an end. A new direction is needed for all of us. A new leadership is needed. " Sandstar blinked as he moved on to look at Russetfall, Osiris, Wasp, and Eaglefrost, "My destiny has been fulfilled. I have lost all but my ninth life to battle and sickness, and one to heart break. My destiny, im afraid, lies beyond the clans now. It is with a weary heart that I must step down as leader." He closed his eyes, and saw Honeydusk and his two precious kits. Upon opening them, he saw Anat. The future of Sunclan. Pride welled in his heart. He knew without a shadow of a doubt that she would be one of the greats. "Anat." Sandstar said, his head held high with that signature nobility the tom always seemed to carry. "I have already given up my leadership at the moonstone. I relinquish my leadership to you. I know you will do everything in your power to make sure that Sunclan not only survives, but thrives." The leader stepped off of the high stump, and bee lined for his deputy, placing his muzzle on the she cats head. "I'm so proud of you, and you're more than ready. Do not doubt yourself." He murmured, his voice dropping to a quiet rumble. "I'm going to find Honeydusk and our kits. Im going to finish my destiny. Keep your head held high, and always think of Sunclan as one whole." He rumbled before bowing his head to the she cat. The former leader turned to the cats around him, "No longer am I your leader. If I ever return, address me only by my warrior name, Sandrunner." He blinked slowly, his heart aching for a moment for the clan he loved so dearly. He had given absolutely everything for them, but everything sinply wasn't enough. They needed more. They needed Anat, and he needed to fulfill his destiny. The tall tom looked to the violet sunrise, and closed his eyes, finally exhaling before he turned to pad quietly out of Sunclan's camp, possibly, for the last time. "Untill we meet again." Sandrunner rumbled, his tail-tip dissapearing in to the grass, vanishing from sight.

Ragingpaw watched, now former, leader step down with wide eyes that betrayed his surprise. "Whaaa!?" He exclaimed after Sandrunner left camp. He didn't even address the murder, and Ragingpaw could have sworn that he had glanced in his direction! Eyebrows furrowed, the growling apprentice stomped down a patch of grass. Was this really a moment to retire? Perhaps SunClan did need a new, better leader...

Veinpool watched with wide eyes as he watched Sandrunner leave camp. His uneasiness form earlier seemed to come back. Sure Anat is here to help take care of the situation now but she'll have to deal with the murder, the apprentices as well as picking a deputy now! He thought. Of all the times Sandrunner had to leave. //// Crowstorm sat frozen on a patch of grass. He watched as the former leader left taking notice that he said nothing about the murder. I guess Sandrunner was to focused his speech to care Crowstorm thought to himself. //// Ravenblood glared as Sandrunner left the camp. He calls himself a leader! Leaders fight until their last life but he is being a coward by leaving us! She thought as her claws sank into the ground. He didn't even say anything about the murder! His an old bat if any cat asked me Ravenblood thought. Hopefully If Anat picks a deputy they be able to control this clan better then the cats who did before...

Tensions were high and Starclan above, Lunardance was terrified as she hung in the edges of camp. She'd come to join, the smell of forests still clinging to her- only to witness the moment of Sunclan's leader evidently leaving and something tells her she'd come at a very bad time.

Not that it could be worse than Moonclan, to be honest. Something about that camp was- so stifling, and she also couldn't live her life looking over her shoulder, wondering if she'd be caught.

Tangy would be horrified in the manner that she'd abandoned camp, her clan. She couldn't find it in herself to care, anymore. That chapter of her life was closed. Now, she could focus on a new chapter; hopefully one with Slipknot in it.

And there laid the second object of her anxieties, as whispering doubts flitted at the edges of her mind. What if something had changed? What if he's been lying? So many what-ifs, but the deed was done and she was here, ready to abandon Moonclan's ghosts.

She searched for any cat resembling Slipknot or his characteristic limp, simultaneously attempting to draw as little attention to herself as possible after the events surrounding Sandstar unfolded.

Slipknot cast a bewildered expression at Sandrunner's retreating form, his announcement having broken into his conversation with Pebblepelt. This was, honestly, outrageous. Leaders shouldn't be allowed to just step down and leave. He gritted his teeth together, narrowing his light coloured eyes slightly before turning his head. He intended to keep gushing about Lunardance, thank you very mu-- Wait, who was that? Slipknot whipped his head back around so quickly that a pop of a bone could be heard, causing him to wince. Maybe the former leader had abandoned them, but there she was! His beloved. With a radiant smile, the dark warrior stood and strode towards her, limp far from his mind. "Lunardance!" Slip purred, touching his nose to hers in greeting.

Omnilight sat amongst the tall grass, silently watching Sandrunner disappear from the camp. His eyes narrowed as he turned to look at Anat. The tom hadnĂ??t spoken for moons. Nothing had emerged from him since Ambrosia had passed away. He didnĂ??t need to say anything. He wasnĂ??t close with his Clanmates, nor his roots.

Pebblepelt watched Slipknot go with a quite bewildered look, but her expression quickly fell into a more understanding one as she saw Lunarpaw- wait, wasn't it Lunardrop or dance or something? Oh stars above, her friend was smitten with the Moonclanner- why was the Moonclanner in their camp- she stood, eyes narrowed as she watched.

Lunardance's ears pricked and she practically lit up with joy as she nuzzled Slipknot, tail held high. "Slipknot- it's been a while, hasn't it? Oh my Starclan, I know it's sudden for me to show up in camp after...whatever this was happened, but...Moonclan wasn't right anymore. Hasn't been for a long time. Are you doing okay?"

"Wha-- Yes, uh, yeah. I'm doing okay," Slipknot replied, more concerned about why exactly Lunardance had come here. Surely things couldn't be bad enough to push her to leave...? Yet here she stood. Of course, he wasn't complaining, a blush making its way up his neck and onto his cheeks. Slip nuzzled her in return, purring, breathing into her ear. "Are you doing alright? I've missed you so much, love." His voice became raspy with his accent. He realized in that moment, though, that they did have a, um... Bystander. Slipknot flushed even more under what he believed to be Pebble's scrutiny.

Bubblepaw looked around the camp bewildered before bounding over to their mentor Veinpool "What do we do now exactly?" she asked him unsure of what the new leader of sunclan would do now that Sandrunner was gone. //// Kindlefur unsure of himself decided to say quiet for now. He felt uncomfortable at the situation at the moment. //// Desertspring looked around for Anat wanting to see their reaction to what just happened. He was curios to know if they would panic or not.

Anat had been relaxing at the edges of the camp clearing, keeping her pale blue eyes out for anything suspicious, when she saw Sandrunner walk through the tall grass. She got to her paws immediately, opening her mouth to speak to him but stopped when he jumped up and addressed the clan. She felt her heart sink into her stomach at the news. He..was leaving? Not just stepping down, but leaving..? How could he leave? How would this impact Honeydusk? Herself..?? Was she even ready? Her thoughts were cut off when he made his way over to her, looking up at the tall tom with almost hopeless eyes. But..his words seemed to lift her up tremendously. He believed in her..But would everyone else? She would have to prove herself. She nodded and whispered to him how much she was grateful to have him as a mentor of sorts for these past moons as his deputy, wished him the best, and told him he would always be welcomed back. She blinked the blur from her eyes as she watched him vanish into the tall grass and stood there for a moment before looking at the clan. Oh. Her clan. Her breath hitched a bit when she saw some looking at her, as if they expected something. Well..they probably did. She should probably say something. Oh Starclan..didn't she need to pick a deputy? Didn't she need to go get her lives? Panic flared in her chest but she stopped and exhaled slowly.

Veinpool shook his head at Bubblepaw being unsure himself "Hopefully we can sort out the situation soon," he said knowing that was the only thing he could hope for right now. //// Crowstorm didn't feel like saying anything. with his lisp whatever he said would probably sound mousebrain anyways. //// Ravenblood puffed her chest out of a bit and stood up straighter in hopes of looking taller. She waited for Anat to speak. I hope she picks a deputy first she thought to herself smiling slightly.

Oakstump watched the camp, and when Sandstar's purple orbs focused on her, she couldn't help but nod in approval. SunClan needs fresh leadership, the unwholesome warrior thought, striding through the center of the clearing to the highest point, looking for Firpaw.

Heatherpaw blinked, "He can't be leaving!" she wailed, though unsure why she was so attached to the leader. He was simply the only one she'd ever known.

Palefur's dull blue eyes seemed a bit more lively then normal as he looked towards Anat. He wondered if she would go get her lives first or pick a deputy to watch over camp while she was gone. His mind wandered as he thought about the possibility that he could be chosen as deputy even though he never really thought about being in charge but what can a cat say everyone wonders about what they do if they were the deputy or even the leader of a clan at some point.

Anat mentally prepared herself for what she was going to say. Don't overthink. Just let it flow. You can't always overthink, Anat. She straightened up and made her way over to the High Stump, her muscles rippling as she leaped onto it. It felt..awkward, but deserved. She cleared her throat a few times to call attention to herself as the surprise from Sandstar's leaving settled a bit. She hoped to Starclan her voice would carry, its raspiness was never on her side when it came to getting loud enough. "Sunclan, I understand Sandstar's announcement comes as a surprise to everyone, and although these are trying times we musn't forget about the strong leadership that he has provided us throughout the seasons. With that being said, I promise you that I will try my best to fill and even outgrow his pawsteps as I proudly take on the position of leader of Sunclan." She made eye contact with almost every cat before continuing. "With no hesitation I proudly announce Shadedmoss as my deputy. This humble she-cat is, although not always in the spotlight, a respected warrior of Sunclan and I have no doubt that she will take on this new responsibility with flying colors." She gave the she-cat a gentle smile before turning back to the clan. "I will be going to the Moonstone soon and I would like Omnilight to escort me. Flintstriker I'd like for you to take a border patrol out towards Moonclan. They've been quiet lately. Thank you all for your time." She jumped down with a soft huff.

Shadedmoss had been listening to Sandstar's speech, and it had surprised her. The tom certainly hadn't been the most involved leader, but it wasn't normal for a Clan leader to simply...leave. At least she didn't think so. She hadn't experienced anything like it before but she wasn't exactly Clan-born. Regardless, it had shocked her, but that was nothing compared to what Anat. She knew she worked hard at her duties, but she would never in a million moons have expected this. As Anat leaped down, she knew she had to say something. Standing up, she took a deep breath and spoke, "I know I may not be who many of you were expecting, but I know that this Clan has provided me with a home and a sense of duty ever since I arrived here at a young age, and I will embrace these new duties with the same effort and determination in which I've taken all others in my life. I will do my absolute best to serve every single one of you to the best of my ability. If any of you have any questions for me, I am open to discussing them with you in private." She dipped her head to the crowd, hoping her generally soft voice would project well enough. She did not want any to see her as weak due to a bad first impression.

He hoped she stick with her promise of showing effort while being in charge. //// Ravenblood slouched as she heard what Anat said. She glared at Shadedmoss before looking away.

Oakstump nodded with a smile to Shadedmoss. She liked the she-cat's go-get-her attitude and charm, and the way she made Oakstump feel like she had a voice despite being deputy for less than five minutes. The tabby grinned- finally, a leader SunClan could prosper under, and a deputy to idolize.
