Midnightsphinx turned to the apprentice with a low growl, the big tom intimidating and his icy blue gaze cold and full of an anger that was incomprehensible. Her deputy, this idiotic Frecklemask was keeping that traitor Thundersong behind her in that stupid EclipseClan camp. The one he had never seen - the one he refused to live in. The one that housed that she-cat that had threatened to hurt, to kill his kits. Anger boiled in his heart and he showed as he locked a pure ice gaze at the apprentice that leaped at him. Aiming for his muzzle, she could follow her path. It was one of the first training techniques that he practiced and perfected. And, despite knowing, this, he let her make the strike, feeling the claws rake his nose, but mere seconds afterward, while she was still on her three paws, swiped a heavy paw aimed at her chest, aiming to knock the smaller cat to her side.

Sandstar's face contorted in a malicious hiss of rage as her claws sliced clean through his neck- a little slit that drove deep and poured a terrifying amount of blood immediately. "Murderer!" He coughed, spitting blood. His giant paw smacked her full in the face with claws streatched as far as he could manage to score them down her face and chest as his legs gave out. A dark terrifying fury showed in his purple depths. What a cowerdly move, diving straight for his neck before he could even respond to her heinous decision. The massive leader fell on his side with a heavy thump, his face frozen in a snarl as the breath froze in his chest. His eyes became glassy, and all was still. Sandstar was now down to seven lives-both taken in attacks no cat could have blocked. After some time he gasped, and life returned to his body, his wound completely healed. Not even a scar shown on his skin, the only tell tale sign of his loss of life was the blood matted in his fur and around his paws, a dark red almost black. The leader lunged from were he lay, snatching Frecklemask's leg in his jaws and crunching down as hard as he could. He placed a paw on her shoulder, shoving her leg to the ground twords him to unblance her completely as his teeth ravaged her leg. "You still won't best me, murderer!" He spat as he ripped away harshly, spitting her own blood and fur in her face. Sandstar lept to his paws, circling her in anticipation of her next attack.

A conceited smirk ceased Buzzing's features as he saw Frecklemask make the first move of lashing out at Sandstar and so, a brawl had commenced. About time, too! "See ya suckers!" The tom yowled to the rest of battle patrol, which was a fatal mistake as he had erased any chance they had of ambushing the EclipseClan group with his loud mouth. His fatal mistake. The tortoiseshell sprinted off, his tail flailing behind him as he leapt into the battle, claws outstretched to strike any enemy who dared to come across his path.

Midnightsphinx's blow connected with Mesquitepaw's chest with a powerful thwack as her claws tore at his muzzle, blood splashing her nose in speckles of red snow-frost. She regained her balance quickly, slipping into instinctual self-preservation as she hissed and leapt again. Her training had been lackluster- she'd been set up with sparring partner after sparring partner and beaten every time. This would be no different. Underneath her motor of fighting instinct, her brain watched her actions with fear. I'm going to die, she thought, and shut down mentally. There was only thing to focus on right now- the tom in front of her. The bigger, stronger, more experienced tom in front of her.

Frecklemask yowled as Sandstar's teeth embedded in her leg. There was nothing but bone to bite on, so his teeth bruised her skin and cut it much the way claws would, rather than the deep bore-holes associated with such a terrible bite. Frecklemask's skeletal form richocheted from him, and her leg jerked in its socket as she pulled it away. She retreated slightly and began to circle.

Feeling the warmth of his slick, sticky blood beneath her feet, Frecklemask relished the terrible feeling of power she had. She had been jerked back to reality as Sandstar had come back to life, the terrible power of StarClan making itself known. Around them, the purple light of the stormcloud's shadow made the whole world go out of focus in a hiss of gray. Frecklemask ignored it, yellow eyes flashing intently at Sandstar's heather gaze.

"Not murder if the cat won't stay dead!" she spat at him.

Midnightsphinx snarled as the she-cat launched, this bracing his head forward, his tail lashing once. Once he felt her claws hook and began to really grab his neck, he used one of his own techniques. It was risky, yes, but it was effective. Once she was locked to do damage, he whipped his head to the right, and brought himself to the ground, slamming his head - and the she-cat hooked onto it, into the ground. He had never used the technique in actual battle, so he didn't know what damage - if any - it would cause.

Frostpatch and Blackrabbit circled each other, both hissing and spitting as they waited for the other to create an opening for attack. Blackrabbit was younger and quicker, but Frostpatch had him beat on experiance and training. Suddenly, Blackrabbit lashed out and landed a blow on Frostpatch's shoulder, but left his flank exposed for attach. Frostpatch sunk her teeth into it in a quick bite, sending Blackrabbit writhing away.

Pebblepelt snarled in frustration as Buzzing gave away their location, before she exploded out to take down Cloudstalker with an uncharacteristic snarl of her own. The Eclipseclanner was taken off guard by the sudden appearance but quickly recovered as she was taken down and hissed as she took some clawing to the side. She twisted to bite at Pebble’s shoulder and shake her head, resulting in the Sunclan warrior tearing herself away as fast as possible before she was injured further, and the two growled lowly as they watched the other warily. Sure, the origina of the fight were...questionable, but nobody questioned anything on the heat of a battle.

SoftSkin ran towards the scene with BlackBerry in tow. His gaze was immediately caught by CloudStalker, looking worriedly at the claw marks on her side. But when a large SunClan tom slammed a smaller she-cat onto the ground he snapped to attention. Oh dear... he couldn't run in there... he had no fur to protect his flesh, no claws to defend himself with... no confidence that he would survive.

Buzzing's olive-hued gaze scoured the area, bustling with cats from both clans striking with both tooth and claw. A glimpse of a weary-looking skinless cat appeared in his peripheral vision which had captured his attention, and so, the apprentice darted through the horde of cats to reach to him. I've never seen such an... ugly cat in my whole life. Look at that saggy skin--more disgusting than road-kill that's been left in the hot sun for moons! With a screech, Buzzing swerved past Blottedrain and barrelled into Softskin, successfully pinning him to the ground right before when he was about to cower behind the large tom.

The desert sand colored tom bared his teeth in outrage. "If I joined the ranks of Starclan- even if for just a moment- It's still murder." He flashed back at her. Sandstar lunged forward to swipe at her chest, but his claws merely tousled her fur narrowly missing her flesh. The lunge had brought him closer to her than he would have liked, his eyes meeting hers fully, purple clashing with yellow. The tension was tangible, making his neck fur prickle uncomfortably as if electricity were sparking beneathe his short thick pelt. A thought- no a memory stirred as he glared angrily at her. The way she moved..her build so similar to his.. her voice even..No! He jerked his head back, forcing himself away from the memory. This wasn't the time for such nonsense. Sandstar's violet gaze narrowed in fierce consentration as he aimed a swipe at the Eclipseclan deputy's ear.

SoftSkin yelped in fear as the apprentice came smashing into him. Scrabbling on the ground, unable to get much traction without claws, the bald sphynx backpedaled.

Mesquitepaw's breath was knocked out of her like a snowbank plowing off of a tree in leaf-bare, thudding the ground in a deceptively soft-looking groan. Midnightsphinx's size dwarfed Mesquitepaw's lithe frame, and the she-cat's eyes widened in realization just as a large crack was heard. A dark pelt came down on her chest, and in a flashing and terrifying moment, the bengal realized she couldn't move her body.

As she looked up from under Midnightsphinx, she thought on her life and her troubles. She'd intended to become a queen, like her mother, and find a nice tom to care for her litters. She could see it now- her and Forgottenpaw, curled around a beautifully colorful litter of orange and black kits. Her mother would say she was proud. EclipseClan would welcome her as a contributing member. She wouldn't have to risk her life defending the border, and she wouldn't have to meet her brother's grizzled death by sickness because a queen's life took priority.

But all that was taken away in an instant as Midnightsphinx laid an accidental blow on Mesquitepaw. He couldn't have known how fragile she was, how untrained. There was no foretelling of the events that would occur in this battle, no omen from StarClan to foreshadow her death. She'd woken up in the apprentice's den, same as always, and gotten to her duties. She hadn't even said goodbye to Demeter when they'd left- she was nowhere to be found. Somewhere, Frecklemask was to blame for calling her to be in the patrol, and for initiating the attack. But Mesquitepaw knew the true fault lay with herself.

I forgive you all, Mesquitepaw thought as she looked, eyes growing glassy. Her mouth opened, but she was unable to draw in breath. Her muscles didn't obey her command. Her orange eyes began to cloud with tears, and she suddenly imagined her brothers were around her, teasing her.

Couldn't even last to your ceremony? Crowpaw, of course, with Ravenpaw and Rookpaw. Mesquitepaw felt herself out-of-body, and the border faded away into the background. She couldn't see the black toms, but she felt them- pulling her upwards. Towards Silverpelt, where the dark and gloomy stormclouds had made a path for her to StarClan.

Mesquitepaw shook her pelt out, looking upwards, but she couldn't go that way either. Instead, it seemed a cruel taunt.

Only the worthy get into StarClan, Ravenpaw's hallucination stated.

"I'm not worthy?" Mesquitepaw said with disbelief. The golden field around her melted into nothing, only blackness. As if a cruel taunt, a single star stayed with her, unattainable and far away.

No. Rookpaw stated solemnly. But neither were we.

Frecklemask locked onto Sandstar's face with increased battle fever, "What makes you think you have a place among StarClan's ranks?" she hissed. She noticed his falter- his eyes flicked and widened for a split second, an emotion hidden there that the Eclipseclan she-cat couldn't place. Instead, she cast a nervous glance around as his paw sailed for her ear.

The battle wasn't going good, but it wasn't going bad either. She spotted Mesquitepaw crumpled on the ground and growled. Good riddance, she thought, though she wasn't sure the clan would say the same. Softskin was being attacked by Buzzing. He'll learn to fight or die. Blackrabbit wrestled with an oddly built SunClan tortoiseshell.

She was torn from her assessment just as Sandstar's claws shredded the side of her ear, leaving ugly and bleeding cuts in their wake. She decided that if she was bleeding, she could use it to her advantage. Shaking her head, she sent droplets splattering and hoped they would land in the sand-colored tom's eyes.

She retreated slightly, a threatening claw raised as she glowered. She noticed with an ear-flick that they'd traded places- Sandstar was on the EclipseClan side, and Frecklemask herself stood with SunClan. As a witness, they mirrored each-other, echoes of the same cat marked and shaped by differing circumstances. Frecklemask wondered why the tom's eyes had held such a captivating emotion.

"Have you lost your claws, Sandstar? I'll help you find them!" she taunted, her long and skinny tail matching his form-for-form.

Midnightsphinx growled lightly as he felt her grip loosen, unknowing of the events that had transpired. He had heard the crack and supposed only perhaps a crack in her spine or maybe a misplaced leg. What he had hoped to do was just wound the she-cat and remove her from him, but as he finally turned to look at her, his tail lashed once behind him, and his icy blue eyes showed no emotion. Silence, but no emotion. She was crumpled and most likely dying. He had done more than a crack, or a broken bone. Inside his fatherly side that had been forever more emerging let out a soft whine of remorse, but that dominating anger and his duty to protect pushed it aside. The tom was having a conflict of emotions - though it stayed all inside his head.

What if that was one of our kits? Dying in such an accident as this? The fatherly side cried, and if personified, the emotions could be seen as an angel and demon on either of his shoulders, shadows of himself.

It isn't one of our kits. The demon side had replied, It's nothing more than an apprentice who attacked the wrong patrol. Do you not remember that it was one of this Clan that injured our mate in the process?

The fatherly side held a face of dismay - he was losing this argument. That doesn't justify this dying apprentice! They had nothing to do with it! They just shared-

Shared a Clan, imbecile. They attacked us. The demon had replied, snarling. Shut your trap and let me do my job.

And within the next few seconds, Midnightsphinx was out of his frozen stance and turning his head to leave the apprentice to her death. Anger was running through his pelt, and his gaze searched for this Thundersong. Surely she would come to investigate? To see the battle that had erupted because of her idiocy? Maybe not, but maybe so. His icy blue eyes scanned the battle and the scene beyond it, searching for any pelt to attack, but mainly aimed to go after Thundersong, should the pathetic lout show her pelt.

"If Starclan wouldn't except me in to their ranks, I wouldn't have recived my name and nine lives. " Sandstar replied coldly. His pupils narrowed to slits as a cold calm stole his mind. Droplets of her blood landed in his right eye, forcing him to close it as the sting was too much. His ears swivled forward in her direction as his eyes flitted to her paws then back to her face. Frecklemask was still standing in the slick dark blood that had poured from his neck earlier. Decisevly he took advantage of the situation, rushing her with paws outstreatched, hoping to cause her to slip and lose her balence. His muscles rippled as he flew at her. A second before he collided with her another flash of something familiar jarred his senses. A scent from a time before he had opened his eyes. His heart skidded in his chest and his mind disconnected with his body. This kind of thing wasn't possible, was it? He questioned silently-pulled completely in to his thoughts as his body moved automatically. His shoulder rolled forward as he aimed an instinctual swipe down her side in an attempt to reopen her scars from their first fight.

Right when Buzzing was about to land a jarring blow on the quivering tom underneath him, Blackberry had rammed into the apprentice with an undesirably strong effect that sent him sprawling to the ground. Regaining his composure, Buzzing leapt to his paws as quick as it happened and fired back at the medicine cat, blindly raking his claws at his face. Throughout the commotion, he managed to call out in a mocking tone, attempting to rile his opponent further,  "Aw! Why'd you interrupt me? I was about to teach this sorry excuse of a cat a lesson!"

Stormleap launched himself in to battle, beelining straight for Midnightsphinx's exposed back. The larger warrior was facing the other direction, completely unaware of the lean grey and white tom who thundered ever closer. His paws left the ground as he lept, golden eyes blazing in accusatory rage. Before his exposed thorn sharp claws could make contact a flying red blur of hard lean muscle slammed in to him, knocking him out of the air. He smashed in to the ground flank first, skidding paws over tail through the grass. // Russetfall rolled with Stormleap, being the first to pop back on to his paws. His red gaze flitted to Midnightsphinx who was left completely untouched by Stormleap thanks to his jumping over his back to tackle the angry warrior. A terrifying snarl contorted his face as he glared down at Stormleap, who looked a bit disoriented. A few of the scars that criss crossed the Eclipseclanners flank had been torn open in his unexpected rough landing. "That was a cowards move!" He hissed, "Going for a cat who's back was turned instead of fighting like a real warrior!" // Stormleap tasted blood- he had bitten his tongue in his earlier collision with the ground it seemed. The metallic taste made his stomach churn. The lean tom drug himself to his paws, seeming not to notice the blood that oozed from his reopened wounds or the biting pain that shot through his flank. He spit blood in Russetfall's face defiantly. "Sunclan would know all about being a coward wouldn't they, rabbit fodder?" He snarled, "A massive warrior like that killing an apprentice in battle? Only a skittish clan like yours-afraid of defeat would target the weaker unexperianced cats. She's dead now! All because of Sunclan's cowardess." // Russetfall yowled as a stinging pain peirced his eyes, blinded, he reared up on two legs, his front paws rubbing his blinded eyes. "Cheap tricks!" He yowled, "There's no honor in Eclipseclan!" Russetfall's eyes squinted open, the world around him a blurry mess of shaps and shadows with splashes of color here and there. He flailed a large red paw in Stormleap's direction, his claws catching on sensative, exposed flesh. With a jerk of his paw he ripped through. Hot blood splattered his belly fur from where he stood on his hind legs. A sudden impact to his belly forced the breath out of him in a woosh, leaving him coughing and gasping as he found himself underneath the grey and white patched warrior. Russetfall was beginning to regain his sight after a considerable amount of furious blinking. He struck as quick as a viper, his teeth embedding in to the Eclipseclan tom's shoulder. // Stormleap screeched as Russetfall's claws shredded his left ear, tearing two 'Vs' in to the soft skin. Not taking a moment to register the blood that splattered the grass and the tom that stood on two legs in fromt of him, Stormleap charged forward shoulder first in a vicious tackle. He wrestled him to the ground, his claws flashing in the first lights of silverpelt as he targeted the toms face as he bit in to his shoulder. His white claws slashed Russetfall's muzzle and cheek. When he let go, Stormleap's back paws churned at his exposed belly, bloodied fur floating in the light warm breeze.

Midnightsphinx turned at the sounds of cats fighting behind him at what would mean an attack that was brought onto him, and the scene of blood and battle that followed Russetfall and Stormleap. He growled and took Russetfall off of the tom and away from the claws churning at his belly, before making his way to the tom, his tail lashing behind him. His cold eyes were colder, vicious, and anger seared his muscles as he pushed himself forward, claws extended and aimed towards the toms neck, his long canines glistening with blood in the fading light.
